You’re probably being recorded.
That’s right. Somewhere in your user agreement you might have agreed to have your encounter recorded for “quality purposes.”
Everything you say, every image you transmit—recorded.
It’s nothing that should keep you from using telemedicine, but it’s also something you don’t normally have to think about in a traditional office visit in the exam room.
What should you do?
Watch what you say.
Watch what you wear.
Watch what’s in the background.
Most of the time, these recordings are deleted after being reviewed. The information’s usually not used for marketing or clinical research, but without reading your terms of service, you just don’t know.
And reading terms of service is probably pretty low on your to do list when you’re not feeling well.
I tell all my patients to use telemedicine as appropriate and just assume that they’re being recorded, that their information is going to be used for marketing and the recording is going to be retained forever
That’s the best way to keep your privacy while keeping yourself safe.
