“Hey Dr. Davis, I wish you’ld quit writing about how “easy” it is to set up a practice.”
“You’re just writing to fill space.”
“It might have been easy to do once, but times have changed”
And that’s just the responses I can publish. This is a family blog after all.
But you get the gist. Across the internet, on the discussion sites, on my social media, even on my email, those who engage with me are skeptical of idea of a house call only Medicare Advantage practice that will earn them above average compensation with a labor intensity that’s far below average.
And even if it is possible, they don’t think they could do it.
More than a few think I can’t do it either.
Challenge accepted.
Over the next few months I’ll take you with me as I set up my own house call only practice step-by-step. You can travel along or just wait and see—perhaps using these posts as a guide as for when you decide to take the plunge.
Let’s get started:
I already have a business structure that limits my liability and provides me the benefits of a running business—an LLC in the state of Missouri. Consult your attorney if you don’t have anything.
I also have my business checking account and credit card ready to go. Consult an accountant to help you with those.
Now I have to contact the Medicare Advantage providers in my area for their best contracts.
There are five. Four national insurers, one regional. As soon as I’m done posting this, I’m going to contact the provider relations number I found on each of their websites and request a contract.
Next installment, I’ll tell you how it went.
