Compensation Based on the Number of Patients in Your Panel—Just Say No
The latest trend in compensation is paying primes, at least in part, based on how large their patient panels are.
Holy cow, what a bad idea.
What a bad, exploitative, short-sighted idea.
An organization who pays you in this way is just trying to get you to run on the treadmill ever faster—and that’s the last thing you need.
But don’t just avoid it because it will increase your chance of burnout and shorten your “Joy Time.
Avoid it because of what it says about how the organization sees you professionally.
As a tool, not a healer.
At the very least, it suggests that they are out of ideas.
Better find an organization that risk shares with its primes, one that will treat you as a partner rather than a commodity.
Somewhere you can thrive.
