For clinicians and clinicians-to-be
I loved caring for my disadvantaged patients under Medicare Advantage.
Loved, Loved, Loved it.
Doing so was far more rewarding than taking care of the same folks under traditional Medicare.
Ah, the joy of executing a difficult task well.
And being rewarded for the value I generated.
The patients were all thankful for their ongoing access to a personal physician—it was not uncommon for them to tell me how jealous their friends were. And they showed it by taking better care of themselves.
I found the crux of the difference to be the additional resources the program provides—resources that I could harness through care systems with the freedom to deploy them where they mattered most.
It was far less restrictive than traditional Medicare.
Far less.
And I became highly motivated.
I was able to use the most of my professional self.
If the opportunity for Medicare Advantage risk-sharing is open to you—insurer, organization or clinician—I advise you to explore it.
Your patients won’t be the only ones who will be thankful.
